Rationale
Medical professionals are entrusted with responsibilities and obligations. Carelessness, inadequate skill, and breach of ethics cannot be tolerated; medical professionals must be ultimately accountable for the quality of the care they provide. EMS must have mechanisms in place to reinforce and ensure adherence to this principle in the system design, procedures, and actions of its members. Professionals render specialized services based on theory, knowledge, and skills that are often peculiar to their profession and generally beyond the understanding and/or capability of those outside of the profession. It is the professional’s responsibility to ensure the public trust by creating a safe, quality, and efficient experience for patients.
