In this course, students will understand the unique challenges caregiving families face and how church members can provide practical care and spiritual encouragement for these families through each life stage. They will also understand the value these families offer as they are given opportunities to use the spiritual lessons they have learned to build up the body of Christ.

Discussions (8)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each Discussion. Each thread must be at least 100 words (see specific discussion assignment for more details) and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 50 words. (CLO: A, B, C, D)

Thesis and Outline Assignments (2)

Following the worksheet provided, students will write a thesis statement and outline on the church’s role in caring for people with disabilities and their families. Students will also complete a second thesis and outline assignment following the worksheet provided on providing spiritual encouragement for people with disabilities and their families. Content will reflect the student’s understanding of the class material and applicable biblical concepts. (CLO: A, B, C)

Research Paper Assignments (2)

Students will write a paper in current Turabian format on the church’s role in caring for people with disabilities and their families and a second research paper on providing spiritual encouragement for people with disabilities and their families. Content will reflect the student’s understanding of the class material and applicable biblical concepts. The paper should include at least three sources in addition to the Bible and be 1,000 to 2,000 words in length. (CLO: A, B, C)

Social Media Post Assignment

Students will create images with practical tips for special needs families and include captions for each image. The goal of the tips is to reduce stress and decision fatigue in caregivers. (CLO: B, C)

Family Care Plan Assignment

Students will create a Family Care Plan for a fictional family that includes how a church could support their practical, emotional, relational, and spiritual needs. Content will reflect the student’s understanding of the class material and applicable biblical concepts. This assignment should be 800-1500 words in length. (CLO: A, B, C, D)

Quizzes (2)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned module(s): week(s). Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 10 multiple-choice and true/false questions, and have a 1-hour time limit. (CLO: A, C, D)
