Liberty University offers a variety of academic resources designed to set you up for academic success. Get the help you need when you need it — all you have to do is ask!
Academic Support Services
- Online Writing Center – Explore tutorials, presentations, and web resources to help you follow academic writing standards.
- Supplemental Instruction (SI) – Ask questions and get live feedback from instructors in these additional help sessions available for specific online courses.
- Jerry Falwell Library – Thousands of periodicals and scholarly journals available to online students through the Jerry Falwell Library Research Portal.
- Tutor.com – Receive 10 free hours per semester of one-on-one tutoring from the comfort of your own home available 24/7.
- Tutorial Videos and Live Webinars – Webinars and tutorial videos are a great way for you to supplement your education with instructional media that can minimize stress, provide insight into processes and procedures you might have questions about, and make you feel more a part of Liberty University and all we have to offer.
- Career Center – Pursue valuable career development opportunities for online students and alumni such as career fairs and the Handshake network.

Liberty University’s Jerry Falwell Library has many online resources available for you to learn more about the research process and find the information you need for a project! With our live, full-time research assistants and librarians, you can get the online tutoring or academic support you need to reach your highest academic potential.

Assessment Tests
The Math and English Assessments should automatically be added to your Canvas page after admission into an associate or bachelor’s degree program. Unless you have previously received credit for a prerequisite course, you must take the assessments before you can register for a MATH or ENGL course so that we can make sure you will be prepared for the course requirements.

Liberty University’s Office of Disability Accommodation Support
Do you need additional academic support due to a medically diagnosed disability? The Academic Support Office of Liberty University’s online and graduate studies programs also offers accommodations and support services to those students who qualify.

Liberty University’s Online Preparation Courses
If you need more preparation before you dive into your more difficult courses, Liberty University offers many preparation courses with foundational training and support for college study habits, learning strategies, computer use, and basic English and math support.
Please note: under some circumstances, specific preparation courses may be required as a condition of your admission to Liberty University. Your admissions counselor will inform you of any requirements upon receiving an admissions decision.
ASCS 101 – Theory for Academic Success
1 credit hour – This course is designed to train students in study strategies needed for success in college. The course includes organizing for study, time management, textbook mastery, listening, memory, note-taking, the motivation for study, reading comprehension and rate, test-taking and individual study strategies for other classes. (The course is recommended for any student who needs to build/refresh skills and continue building academic muscle while taking a lighter load.)
ENGL 100 – Basic Composition
3 credit hours – This course emphasizes functional grammar, paragraph development, vocabulary building, and enrichment reading. Open to all students but required for students who have low scores on national tests or Liberty University placement tests. Students must receive at least a “C” to be eligible for ENGL 101. This course may not meet the General Education requirement in English.
INFT 110 – Computer Concepts and Applications
3 credit hours – This course will introduce the student to the operation and use of computers. Specific applications taught include operating systems, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software. Also, students can learn basic terminology and concepts related to the use of computers in today’s society.
MATH 100 – Fundamentals of Mathematics
3 credit hours – A review of basic arithmetic and elementary algebra. Open to all students but required for students with low scores on Liberty University placement tests and inadequate preparation in mathematics. A grade of “C” or better is required to go on to a higher-level mathematics course. This course may not be used in meeting General Education requirements in mathematics. (Developmental Math is a component of the Academic Success Center.)
