Rationale
This course aims to study, analyze, and clarify the law of higher education and how it affects legal issues and policies in higher education settings. An examination of the current directions in recent case law impacting policies in student affairs in higher education is examined.

Discussions (2)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the candidate will participate in two Discussions throughout this course. In each Discussion, the candidate will submit a thread of at least 300 words and at least 2 replies of at least 150 words each. (CLO: A, D)
Interview Assignment
The candidate will conduct an interview with an individual that works in higher education and answer six questions regarding the Student-Institution Relationship. The candidate will then write a 1,000 word summary reflecting on the interview and include two legal cases discussed in Chapter 7. (CLO: A, B, C, E).
Media Analysis Assignment
The candidate will compare coverage of a selected topic specific to The College and Its Governing Board and Staff in 3–4 different types of sources (newspapers, magazines, academic journals, books, professional association website). This assignment requires citations from 3-4 sources in current APA formatting. This media analysis will include a title page, a references page, and must have a body of work with a minimum of 800 words. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E)
Reflective PowerPoint Presentation Assignment
The candidate will create a PowerPoint presentation exploring one of the course topics more in depth. Additionally, the candidate must type a script to align with the PowerPoint for a 30-minute presentation incorporating relevant sources. (CLO: C, D, E)
Quizzes: Case Reviews (3)
The candidate will review and reflect upon three different precedent-setting case scenarios. Each quiz will contain five short answer questions regarding three case scenarios. (CLO: A, B, C, D)
