Course Description

A continuation of MATH 131. Techniques of integration, improper integrals, applications of integration, introduction to differential equations, sequences, infinite series, parameterizations of curves.

Rationale

This course provides a standard introduction to the study of calculus. It presents the theory and applications of elementary calculus necessary for further study of mathematics.

Homework Assignments (15)

Homework will be submitted through WebAssign. The student will have 4 attempts on these assignments. The questions will be randomized after each attempt and the numbers will change slightly. The best score from your 4 attempts will be recorded in the grade book. After the student’s 3rd submission of the homework, the solutions will be given to the student. So, this means the student will have the solutions for final submission. This is a gift and a great tool. Please use the solutions as a tool for studying for the quizzes and/or exams. (CLO: A–I; FSLO: TSQR 1–3)

There will be 3 unit exams and one cumulative final exam. What is covered on the exams is as follows:

  1. Quiz: Integration Exam – Integration Techniques, Applications of Integration, and Calculus Techniques with Parametric and Polar Equations.
  2. Quiz: Power Series Exam – Power Series and Power Series Techniques.
  3. Quiz: DiffEq and lin. Alg. Exam – Differential Equations and Linear Algebra.
  4. Quiz: Final Exam – Integration Techniques, Applications of Integration, Calculus Techniques with Parametric and Polar Equations, Power Series, and Power Series Techniques. 

Each unit exam will have two parts: Part 1 will have a WebAssign portion completed and submitted within WebAssign, and Part 2 will require a handwritten portion submitted within Canvas. Both portions will be timed, open-book/open-notes, and potentially cover all of the material from the current unit. The student will be able to view the WebAssign time limit in the WebAssign platform. Three of the Canvas Quiz: Exams will have a time limit of one hour, whereas the Quiz: Final Exam Part 2 has a time limit of two hours. On the written portion of the exam, the student is expected to write correct mathematics to avoid point deductions. (CLO: A–I; FSLO: TSQR 1–3)
