Course Description

Designed to equip students for success as they transition into the online classroom, this course offers strategic information tailored to ensure academic excellence in this unique learning environment; this information includes Liberty University’s foundations and beliefs, Liberty University Online resources for success, Canvas navigation techniques, time management strategies, the adult learner’s responsibilities, methods for identifying and avoiding academic misconduct, scholarly research tactics, and approaches for selecting the appropriate courses towards completion of the preferred degree program.

Rationale

This course provides an orientation to the online classroom, learning strategies, and technology skills required for success in online learning. This course offers the student an opportunity to develop and strengthen the skills necessary for academic achievement within Liberty University’s online program.

Discussions (2)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, students will post an original thread responding to the prompt provided. Thread must be a minimum of 150 words and include introductory information and thoughts. In addition, students will reply to two other classmates. Each reply must be a minimum of 75 words. (CLOs: A, B, C, D, E, & F; FSLOs: TSQR 1, 2, & 4, CIL 2, CT 1, 2 & 4)

Email Assignment

Students will complete a brief, “mock” email assignment, designed to orient students to proper and professional email communication and etiquette. The email will not be sent; a screenshot will be uploaded instead. (CLO: A, B, C, & D; FSLOs: TSQR 1, CIL 2)

Interactive Activity: Financial Literacy Assignment

Students will complete an interactive activity on the four H’s of financial wisdom. This activity autogrades. (CLOs: A, B & F; FSLOs: TSQR 3, CIL 1, 2, 3, & 5, CT 4 & 5)

Interactive Activity: Foundational Skills Assignment

Students will view videos on the six general education foundational skills while they complete an interactive “Escape Room” activity. This activity autogrades. (CLOs: A, B, C, D, E, & F; FSLOs: TSQR 1, 2, & 4, CIL 1 & 3, CT 1)

Students will complete chapter-based activities. Each activity autogrades. (CLOs: A, B, C, D, & E; FLSOs: CIL 1, 2, 3, & 5; TSQR 1; CT 2, 3 & 4; CGE 3; SSI 1 & 3; CC 3 & 4)

Campus Exploration PowerPoint Assignment

Students will create a Powerpoint based on a campus exploration experience, either on-campus or online using Liberty’s website. The PowerPoint must contain 10 slides. Slides will require a picture and include information on the service/office. (CLOs: A & C.; FSLOs: TSQR 1, CIL 1 & 2)

Civic and Global Engagement/Diversity/Worldview Reflection Assignment

After completing the readings and viewing the presentations for the assigned Module: Week, students will complete a three-part reflection essay demonstrating vital insights on the cultivation and implementation of a biblical worldview. The essay must be 350-475 words. (CLOs: A, B, C, D, & F; FSLOs: TSQR 2 & 4, CIL 1, 2, 3, & 5, CT 1, 2, & 4, CGE 1, 2, & 3, SSI 2a, CC 3 & 4)

Extra Credit GENED Assessment Test

Students may complete a comprehensive General Education Assessment for extra credit. Questions are drawn from the six foundation skills (Civic & Global Engagement, Communication & Information Literacy, Christianity & Contexts, Critical Thinking, Social & Scientific Inquiry, and Technological Solutions and Quantitative Reasoning). Extra credit point(s) will be awarded for each correct response and will be factored into overall student grades. 

Quiz

Students will complete six Module Acknowledgment quizzes. Students will be asked to acknowledge that they have reviewed the chapter topics, biblical integration, and Learn and Apply items in each module. (CLOs: A, B, C, D, E, & F; FSLOs: TSQR 1, CIL 1, CT 4, CGE 1, CC4)

Students will complete placement assessments in English and Math to determine future course sequencing and placement. These assessments are located in separate Canvas courses and can be located on the Canvas Dashboard. After completing the assessments, students will confirm the status of these assessments within two quizzes in the course:

Quiz: Midterm and Final (2)

Students will complete two open-book/open-notes 30 multiple-choice question examinations, based on the textbook readings (Midterm will cover Chapters 1-5; Final will cover Chapters 6-10). Students may attempt each exam twice. Exams autograde. (CLOs: A, B, C, D, & E; FSLOs: TSQR 1 & 2, CT 1 & 2, CGE 3)
