Course Description

A continuation of HLTH 221 that examines the structure, function, and pathology of the various body systems and their roles, relevance, and applications in health and illness. The course will employ virtual interactive cadaver dissection technology. The following topics are covered: introduction to nutrition; the digestive system; the urinary system; the skin; resistance and immunity; the musculoskeletal system; introduction to genetics; and the reproductive systems. Rationale

The purpose of this course is to assist the student in gaining knowledge of God’s most amazing creation: the human body. Being familiar with the major structures and the physiological operation of these structures will help provide an educational foundation to work in a future health-related field. In addition, this course will improve the student’s ability to communicate with other individuals working in health-related fields.

Discussions (2)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt. Each thread must be at least 350 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. The student must cite at least 1 scientific reference in his or her thread to support his or her position. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 1 other classmate’s thread. Each reply must be at least 150 words.

Homework Assignments (5)

The student will complete homework assignments through the McGraw Hill Platform using the Anatomy & Physiology Revealed resources.

Disorder or Disease Presentation: Topic and References Assignment

The student will submit a Word document with the presentation topic and a reference list of at least 3 peer-reviewed references in current APA format. A paragraph explaining why that topic was chosen.

Disorder or Disease Presentation: Final Assignment

The student will create a 15-slide presentation that focuses on a disorder or disease process. The presentation must include at least 3 peer-reviewed references in current APA format.

Quizzes (5)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the Module: Week in which it is assigned, and the prior Module: Week, except for Quiz: The Musculoskeletal System: Bones and Joints and Quiz: The Musculoskeletal System: Muscles, which will only cover the material for the Modules: Weeks in which they are assigned. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 30–50 multiple-choice, true/false, and/or matching questions. Quiz: Nutrition, and the Digestive and Urinary Systems , Quiz: The Integumentary System, Resistance, and Immunity, and Quiz: The Musculoskeletal System: Muscles will each have an essay question. Each quiz has a 70-minute time limit.
