EVAN101: Evangelism and the Christian Life

Course Description

An in-depth study of how to lead people to Christ. Special attention will be given to the theology of all aspects of evangelism including the follow-up. Various methods of approach and presentation will be considered. Emphasis will be placed on evangelism and the local church for conservation of results.

Rationale

This course was designed in obedience to the biblical mandate supported by Liberty University to evangelize the lost. Its purpose is to train the student to evangelize and to equip others for evangelism in today’s culture, a skill especially needed by the student studying for a vocation in church and para-church ministries.

Discussions (2)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will create a five-part thread in response to the provided prompt and interact with classmates’ answers. The student will post 1 thread of at least 300 words. The student must then post 2 replies of at least 150 words each. The student is expected to reference applicable readings, presentations, and notes in the discussion threads and replies. In addition, the student should use the Bible as a source. Citations must be formatted according to the guide that corresponds with the student’s degree program.

God’s Story Paper Assignment

The student will share how his/her story intersects with God’s Story. This paper can be completed by believers and nonbelievers. The paper will consist of the following sections:

  1. Identifying a Sinful Nature
  2. Accepting or Rejecting the Redemptive Work of Christ
  3. Living Spiritually

The paper will be 500–750 words and should include at least 6 quotes of the student’s choice from the Bible, textbooks, or other class resources. Citations must be formatted according to the guide that corresponds with the student’s degree program. (CLO: A, D FSLO: CC1, CC3, CGE1, CGE2, CGE3, CGE4, CGE5, CIL5)

Sharing the Gospel Paper Assignment

The student will write a 750–1200-word paper describing a time this term when he/she shared the gospel. The assignment has 2 parts:

  1. Preparing to Share the Gospel.
  2. Sharing the Gospel

Partial credit may be given for only completing one half of the assignment. The paper should include at least 3 quotes from the Bible, textbooks, or other class resources. Citations must be formatted according to the guide that corresponds with the student’s degree program.

Reflection Paper Assignment

Students will complete a reflection paper as the final writing assignment in the course. This assignment is not designed as a research paper but rather as the student’s personal reflection on the course and how this material can be applied in the future. The major areas of focus in this assignment will be looking back to content within the course and looking ahead to how this material can be utilized in the future. There are 2 parts for this assignment and each part must have a minimum word count of 250 words. There is no maximum. Citations must be formatted according to the guide that corresponds with the student’s degree program. (CLO: D)

Quizzes (4)

There will be 4 open-book/open-notes Quizzes in this course and the student will be allowed 1 attempt per Quiz. Quizzes: Introduction, God’s Story, and Personal Evangelism will cover the Learn material presented within the assigned Modules: Weeks leading up to the Quiz. Each Quiz will consist of randomized multiple-choice and true/false questions, and Quizzes: Introduction, God’s Story, and Personal Evangelism will contain an essay question. Each Quiz must be completed within a 1-hour time limit. Quiz: Final will be open-book/open-notes and will be cumulative without an essay question; this Quiz has double the points and must be completed within a 2-hour time limit. Study guides are provided to assist the student in preparing for these Quizzes. The student should use all 3 study guides to prepare for the final.
