Course Description
This course focuses on proficiency in grammar, paragraph development, writing basic essays, and the writing process in general.

CLST 113 or Assessment – English with a score of 27

Rationale
To be successful in college and professional environments, the student must know how to correctly and concisely express himself/herself in word choice, well-structured sentences, coherent paragraphs, and unified essays. English 100 prepares the student to begin writing the argumentation essays found in English 101.
Course Assignment
After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.
Discussion
The student is required to submit an original introduction thread and respond to 2 classmates’ introductions.
Discussions
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to submit an original thread and give constructive feedback to at least 2 other classmates’ threads.
For Discussion: Peer Review 1, the student will submit a completed version of the Narrative Paragraph rough draft as a thread and respond to at least 2 classmates providing constructive feedback.
For Discussion: Peer Review 2, the student will submit a completed version of the first Essay rough draft as a thread and respond to at least 2 classmates providing constructive feedback.

The student will complete a multi-step Paragraph Prewriting Assignment using the provided templates for each required paragraph written in 1 of the given paragraph organizational patterns.

The student will revise/edit the paragraph planned in the Paragraph Prewriting Assignment to create a Paragraph Final Draft on the provided template for the 3 paragraph assignments.

For each of the 2 required essays, the student will complete an Essay Prewriting Assignment on the provided template for 1 of the essay organizational patterns provided. Each essay must include 5 paragraphs: an introduction, at least 3 well-developed supporting paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph.

The student will revise/edit the essay planned in the Essay Prewriting Assignments to create an Essay Final Draft on the provided template for the 2 essay assignments.
