Inaugural Conference USA football schedule set for Liberty

On Tuesday, Jan. 10, Conference USA announced its full 2023 football conference schedule. The schedule includes eight conference games for the Flames, including five midweek league contests for Liberty.

The eight-game conference schedule will put the Flames in a position to challenge for their first conference title in football since the 2016 season.

Conference USA’s 19th annual Championship Game, pitting the top-two finishers during conference play, will be played on either Friday, Dec. 1, or Saturday, Dec. 2 during championship week. The final date and time will be announced at a later date.

In November, C-USA membership approved a linear television-friendly scheduling format for football that sees all October league matchups played on midweek evenings.

The broadcast partners will share C-USA’s October weeknight football games on linear television across CBS Sports Network, ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.

It is important to note that all Conference USA games are subject to date changes and some dates may move in the future in order to accommodate national television selections. A schedule of televised games will be released at a later date.

Today’s announcement completes Liberty’s 2023 football schedule, which features seven home games and five road contests.

“We are very excited to kick off the Jamey Chadwell era and play our inaugural season in Conference USA,” Liberty Director of Athletics Ian McCaw said. “We are blessed to have seven home games in Williams Stadium with our incredible fan support and elite game day atmosphere.”

Liberty will play two of its five midweek conference games at home in 2023, featuring a Thursday night game against Sam Houston State on Oct. 5 and a Tuesday night contest against Middle Tennessee on Oct. 17.

Conference USA will play its entire October slate during the midweek. Liberty will also have midweek games at FIU (Thursday, Sept. 28), Jacksonville State (Tuesday, Oct. 10) and Western Kentucky (Tuesday, Oct. 24).

Liberty will play its first-ever Conference USA game when the Flames welcome New Mexico State back to Liberty Mountain on Sept 9.

“Our team and staff are looking forward to competing against this challenging schedule and are pleased to be part of Conference USA,” Flames Head Coach Jamey Chadwell said. “Williams Stadium will be rocking during our seven home games this season and we look forward to establishing new rivalries.”
