Alumnus runs for Colorado Senate seat

Liberty University alumnus Kevin Grantham won the Republican primary election for the Colorado State Senate District 2 in August, with 64 percent of the vote, against Matt Heimerich. Grantham graduated from Liberty in 1992 with a bachelor’s in Religion.

“My years at Liberty were the most important in my life, without a doubt,” said Grantham. “Life-long friendships, fantastic experiences, lasting memories, top-notch education — all of these add up to the profound impact that Liberty had on my life.”

Although his career is outside of his degree field, he uses the training he received at Liberty to lead music and teach at his local church.

He said volunteering for campaigns and being involved with clubs at Liberty helped open up political opportunities that helped bring him to where he is today, fighting for conservative values at the state level.

“Our state has seen a significant shift to the left in the past decade. A haphazard handling of constitutionally mandated spending limits has plagued our state legislature in recent years. I want to lead the charge in bringing our state back under the umbrella of our Constitution and back to some fiscal responsibility,” Grantham said.

His next step is the general election on Nov. 2, where he will be running against Democrat Gloria Stultz.

Grantham is a certified real estate appraiser in Cañon City, Colo., where he lives with his wife, Caroline, and their children, Raychel and Justin.
