Top-seeded Liberty University’s men’s golf team clinched its fifth Big South Conference Championship in eight seasons on Sunday, winning by 19 strokes over runner-up Campbell University with a combined 16-under-par 848 team total.
After carding an 11-over par 299 on Friday’s first round at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C., the Flames played the final 36 holes at a combined 27-under par.
The dominant win secures Liberty its seventh NCAA Regional berth since 2011. The Flames will learn of their NCAA Regional destination on May 2 when the tournament field is announced at 5:30 p.m. on the Golf Channel.
Liberty was paced by senior Mickey DeMorat (76-67-66) and freshman Alexandre Fuchs (74-68-67), who were named to the Big South All-Championship team after finishing tied for second place at 7-under 209. DeMorat was also recognized on the Big South All-Academic Team and sophomore Erving Chang was named to the Big South All-Conference Team.
Flames Head Coach Jeff Thomas was named the Big South Coach of the Year for the third time.
