Liberty University’s annual Giving Day on Oct. 16 is the one 24-hour span where the school’s entire community of alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends join together to “fuel the fire” and directly support programs and causes of their choice from around the university.
Participants can choose from over 100 campaigns that support the growth of academic departments and athletics programs and provide funds for those in need, all with the goal of advancing Liberty’s decades-long mission of Training Champions for Christ. Donors can make a gift online at the Giving Day website or at stations throughout campus. Wherever donors decide to give, 100 percent of the funds goes directly to the chosen cause.
“Liberty University’s annual Giving Day is an opportunity for us to live generously by giving back,” Executive Vice President of Development Brian Mentzer said. “No one is more generous than our Lord, and living generously is living in His image, the absolute best way to do life.”
Those who register to be a Giving Day Ambassador will receive a personal link to share with friends, family, and others. As people donate through the link, ambassadors can unlock prizes, including a hat, blanket, and Igloo Backpack Cooler. There are multiple challenges throughout the day, including sharing fun photos on social media, that can move ambassadors up the leaderboard.
In the days following the devastation from Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton, a Hurricane Disaster Relief Campaign will be receiving gifts during Giving Day. All funds raised will go entirely toward relief efforts, whether for much-needed supplies or mobilizing disaster response teams. On Oct. 9, Liberty President Dr. Dondi E. Costin announced that the university will match up to $1 million in donations for hurricane disaster relief efforts.(Read more about how Liberty is helping those affected.)
The Liberty community also has an opportunity to care for their own by contributing to the Liberty University Employee Benevolence Fund and LU Shepherd Student Benevolence Fund, which support members of the LU family who find themselves in need of financial assistance due to unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances.
Alumni also have the chance to join The Champion Club, an exciting, multi-level membership program through the Office of Alumni Relations that lets members choose between five different levels of giving. Contributions help fund the Alumni Association Scholarship to help students in financial crisis or financial need and support alumni chapters and events.
