Liberty to hold memorial events for Israel on anniversary of Hamas attacks

Liberty University’s Freedom Tower was lit with the colors of the nation of Israel after Oct. 7, 2023, the day Hamas carried out the deadliest attack in Israel’s modern history. The tower will be lit again tonight in victims’ memory and as a show of support for Israel.

Oct. 7 marks the first anniversary of the deadly Hamas attacks against Israel. The terrorist organization killed nearly 1,200 people and seized more than 200 hostages in one of the greatest acts of violence toward Israel in modern history.

Liberty University is holding events today, Monday, to rally support, awareness, and prayer for the nation of Israel.

The Freedom Tower at the heart of Liberty’s campus will be lit in blue and white, the colors of Israel’s flag, Monday night to honor kidnapped civilians and families torn apart, and to show support for a nation in mourning as it continues to fight evil.

Also on Monday night, Liberty’s Standing for Freedom Center is hosting an event, “Why Christians Should Support Israel,” featuring Dr. Jeff Myers, president of Summit Ministries and a leading authority on Christian worldview. His message is titled, “One Year Later: Honoring Courage in the Face of Terror.” The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the School of Business Towns Auditorium and is open to the Liberty community and members of the public.

Liberty President Dr. Dondi E. Costin and Chancellor Jonathan Falwell recorded their sentiments and a call to unite in prayer for Israel in a short video, which will be played at an evangelical commemoration event on Monday in Jerusalem at the Friends of Zion Museum (watch video below).
