Liberty University recognizes Dr. Beth Koss as the 2024 winner of the Conference USA Faculty Achievement Award for outstanding teaching, research, service, and scholarly work. Dr. Koss oversees the accounting program as program director in the School of Business and has taught at Liberty since 2015, bringing over 25 years of industry knowledge and expertise.

“Dr. Beth Koss has a remarkable dedication and devotion to education, preparing, and equipping students and student-athletes for their professional careers. She has been recognized in both academics and athletics for her outstanding faculty performance,” said Liberty Provost and Chief Academic Officer Scott Hicks. “Beth’s blend of academic experience, innovative teaching, and advanced teaching methods has helped to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes inside and outside the classroom.”

“Dr. Beth Koss is a caring, compassionate member of the Liberty faculty who goes above and beyond to serve her students and inspire them to become the best version of themselves,” said Vice President and Director of Athletics Ian McCaw. “Beth is an outstanding choice as the winner of the CUSA Faculty Achievement Award at Liberty University.”

Each year, the Conference USA Faculty Achievement Award honors university professors who demonstrate a record of outstanding contributions to academics.

“Strengthening relationships and fostering collaboration among our membership is a priority,” said CUSA Executive Associate Commissioner Dr. Robert Philippi.  “The Faculty Achievement Award advances those objectives by honoring institutional professors who demonstrate an outstanding record of teaching, research, service and scholarly activity.”  The annual award recognizes one winner from each CUSA member institution who receives an honorarium and automatically becomes the university’s nominee for the CUSA Professor of the Year Award. The conference’s Professor of the Year is determined by a committee of Provosts from each member institution and will be announced prior to July 1.

Prior to joining Liberty, Dr. Koss worked in the private sector for over 25 years as a director of finance and accounting, vice president of operations, and president, overseeing company leadership, strategy, and growth. She brought this professional experience to Liberty with both academic knowledge and real-world applications to ensure that the learning environment extended beyond the theoretical.

Dr. Koss continually makes student engagement in the classroom her highest priority by implementing teaching styles and methodologies to make coursework relatable and improve student learning. She teaches the senior-level capstone business course that is modeled to provide a training environment with real-world scenarios. This includes business simulation where students create a strategic plan for a company and present to a board of professors in order to strengthen teamwork and problem-solving.

Dr. Koss’ CUSA Faculty Achievement Award and her nomination for CUSA Professor of the Year Award is a testament to her outstanding contributions to Liberty University faculty, students, student-athletes, and the broader academic community.
