Liberty University announces exciting additions to spring Convocation lineup

Liberty University has released updates to its Spring Convocation schedule, welcoming guests from the realms of government, sports, music, and ministry to engage and inspire students.

Students will have the chance to hear two of Christian music’s top duos when four-time Grammy award-winning duo for KING & COUNTRY perform on March 11 and worship duo Shane & Shane take the stage on April 13.

On March 23, in recognition of Flames quarterback Malik Willis being named the 2021 Bobby Bowden Trophy winner, Liberty will welcome Bowden’s son, Tommy Bowden, former Clemson University head football coach. Liberty Head Coach Hugh Freeze, Willis, and other notable figures in college athletics will join Bowden to discuss the role of faith in football. The Bobby Bowden Trophy recognizes the college football player who epitomizes a student-athlete of faith. Previous award winners include some of the nation’s elite players, such as Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa (2019 award winner) and Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence (2020 award winner).

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin will visit Liberty for the March 25 Convocation. His talk will coincide with the Helms School of Government’s public policy conference. (Read more about his visit on Liberty’s news website.)

Another addition to the schedule is Pastor Benny Tate of Rock Springs Church in Milner, Ga., who will speak this Friday, March 4.

Previously scheduled guests Steve Smothermon and Matt Chandler are being rescheduled for a date in the near future, depending on their availability.

“We are excited to bring these additional guests to our Convocation schedule for this spring,” Campus Pastor Jonathan Falwell said. “Throughout this academic year, we have all been blessed and encouraged by the many different speakers who have taken the LU stage. We know these additions will only serve to make the Liberty Convocation experience even more meaningful for our students.”

Liberty’s Convocation is North America’s largest weekly gathering of Christian students. The event is held on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 10:30 a.m. EST and is streamed on Liberty’s main Facebook page and the Office of Spiritual Development Facebook page.
