In the Saturday, Sept. 26, opinion section of The News & Advance, the editorial board gave a “thumbs up” to Marcus Oliver, whose life was changed after he recalled a promise that was made to him years ago by Liberty University’s founder, Dr. Jerry Falwell, to offer him a job after Oliver served his prison time. (Falwell had been a customer of Oliver’s at a local restaurant). After Oliver was released, he spoke with current President Jerry Falwell and other Liberty staff who helped him find a mentor at nearby Thomas Road Baptist Church and provided the training he needed to carry out his new job in the university’s online admissions department.
