Pastor Lon Solomon speaks on inerrancy of God’s Word at Monday convocation

Fresh off fall break, students gathered in the Vines Center for Monday’s convocation to hear the words of Lon Solomon, pastor of McLean Bible Church in Northern Virginia and a graduate of Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. He addressed the negative view the average American holds concerning the evangelical church and pointed to a lack of Bible preaching from evangelical pastors in recent decades as a reason for this perception.

“I’m here to challenge you to be men and women who go out and bring the evangelical church back to its original moorings — being firmly rooted on the teaching of the inerrant Word of God,” Solomon said.

Citing Matthew 22:29-32, the speaker reminded students of the words Jesus told the Sadducees when they attempted to question His teachings. Christ responded to their deceptive inquiries by educating them on the importance of God’s Word and His power.

“Jesus believed the Bible to be inerrant and infallible,” Solomon said. “If the Lord Jesus Christ believed that the Bible was inspired down to the very tenses of the verb, then I believe the Bible was inspired down to the tenses of the verb and I will take my chances in His life and eternity, standing with the Bible as the Lord Jesus Christ saw the Bible.”

Solomon received his Doctorate of Divinity from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in 2005. He has been on the Board of Jews for Jesus since 1987, where he now serves as chairman of the Board’s executive committee. In September 2002, Lon was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as a member of the President’s Committee on Intellectual Disabilities. Solomon served two, two-year terms in this capacity. He is also the author of the book, “Brokenness—How God Redeems Pain and Suffering.”

Solomon is currently preaching a series at McLean Bible Church titled, “How Firm a Foundation.” Before speaking to thousands of Liberty students, he spoke to the congregation at Thomas Road Baptist Church on Sunday night, preaching a sermon on the external proofs that back up the Bible’s inerrancy.
