Biography

Dr. Nathan Street has served as a public school music educator for over 20 years in various capacities including general music, high school choral high school orchestra, high school band, and finally with 15 years as the Director of Fine Arts for Guilford County Schools, Greensboro, NC. In his role as teacher, his ensembles have traveled the nation performing in venues from churches to festivals with excellent and superior ratings. As the Director of Fine Arts, Dr. Street’s department increased student arts enrollment from 70% to 82.1% and he developed over 60 full-time, governmental/non-governmental, public/private, for-profit/not-for-profit partnerships averaging $500,000 per year in donations and services affecting 145,000 students. Additionally, his department was recognized in 2018 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and National School Boards Association School District of Excellence for Arts Education. With over $10 million in awarded grants from the United States Department of Education, Country Music Association, John F. Kennedy for the Performing Arts, National Pawn, and Lang Lang International Music Foundation, his programs developed innovative curricular offerings for students and teachers throughout the district. His department was a five-year recipient of the National Association for Music Merchants’ Best Community for Music Education award, along with many other recognitions for excellence in arts education.

In addition to his role at Liberty University as adjunct professor, subject matter expert, and Program Director of the Master of Arts in Music Education (MAME) degree, Dr. Street serves students in the LU School of Education as a dissertation chair and is the Assistant Professor of Graduate Education at Southern Wesleyan University in Central, SC where he also manages the National Association for Schools of Music (NASM) accreditation procedures. With over 1,000 professional development events managed, he is a frequent adjudicator at festivals, clinician for music ensembles nationally, and speaker at conferences, events, and trainings. He is a member of the Heritage Foundation, Intercollegiate Studies Institute, and a former board member of the Americans for the Arts (education division), North Carolina Music Educators Association, ArtsGreensboro, and High Point Arts Council. He has also served as grants reviewer for the National Endowment for the Arts for three years.

He is a 26-year veteran music pastor with the Church of God (Cleveland, TN) and is presently the choir director for North Walhalla Church of God in Walhalla, SC. He is the cohost of the popular podcast Carolina Conservatives: Preachers With a Punch with Pastor Allen Mashburn, available on all major platforms. An author of many publications, minister, and performer, Dr. Street resides in Seneca, SC with his wife, Shannon, and their seven cats.
