Biography
Dr. Kevin Chiarizzio was born and raised in Memphis, Tenn. He has performed in many instrumental ensembles throughout his career and had early professional experience with the Memphis Symphony while completing his undergraduate degree. His principal teachers include trombonists Douglas Lemmon, Robert Weiss, and Robert Gray.
Chiarizzio is active as a musician and teacher. He was invited to perform with select ensembles at two International Trombone Festivals, he has twice performed solos at the American Trombone Workshop (previously known as the Eastern Trombone Workshop), and Dr. Chiarizzio regularly presents solo recitals and clinic/master classes at universities and schools across the country. He has also adjudicated state and regional music competitions/festivals. He is currently the principal trombonist with the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra. Previous orchestral positions include the principal trombonist with the Waco, Bryan (Tenn.), Danville (Ill.), and Arkansas symphonies.
Prior to his tenure at Liberty, Dr. Chiarizzio served on the faculties of Baylor University, Tennessee Technological University, Ouachita Baptist University, and held graduate teaching assistantships at the University of Memphis and the University of Illinois.
Dr. Chiarizzio serves as a literature reviewer for the International Trombone Association Journal.
