What Can Christian Radio Stations Do in This Election Season?

As station managers and on-air talent, election season can be difficult to navigate and maintain a positive mindset when there’s so much tension. However, as Christians, we should keep our focus on the Lord. Believers should be encouraged to vote because they play a critical role in ensuring that our nation’s policies and principles are anchored to the truth and guided by Scripture.

So, how can you equip and support your listeners during this election season? Here are three ways:

Encourage your listeners to pray for our nation and leaders:

Paul gives this instruction to a young pastor named Timothy: “I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, Who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim 2:1-4).

It’s always the right time to pray for our nation and leaders. You can encourage your listeners to pray that America will have discerning representatives who make good and wise decisions. For inspiration and audio prayers, please visit the article resources below:

Inspire your listeners to be informed on the issues that matter:

In Jeremiah 29:7, we have a roadmap for how to live holy lives in hard places. God told His people living in Babylon, “Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”

This election season, Christians won’t just be voting for politicians; they’ll be casting votes on a variety of policies that will impact the American family. Inspire your listeners to take the time to research candidate platforms before entering the ballot box so they know where they stand on issues that can transform our nation.

Embolden your listeners to vote:

No matter their political party, your listeners should remember that God has placed them in this great nation and given them the freedom to vote for the leaders that best reflect their values. David writes in Psalm 33:12, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” Christians have a unique calling to bless our nation, and by voting, they fulfill their civic responsibility and their duty before God.

So, during this election season, do your best to encourage your listeners to pray for our nation while inspiring them to be informed on the issues. In doing so, you may embolden some to vote who otherwise might not have. But no matter the outcome, Christian radio has the unique opportunity to remind listeners that God is ultimately in control of our nation and leaders and that He alone is our hope and peace.
