Liberty University School of Law officially unveiled the newest section of the law school building. “The Commons,” formerly known as Phase III, was presented to law school alumni, faculty, and staff on Friday, October 16, during the Inaugural Alumni Dinner. In all, the new section consists of the Career and Student Services, the Commons, the Commons Café, and the Loft at the Commons.
Dean Mathew Staver said, “The final phase of construction has now been completed. The facility has been transformed into a world class law school. The construction of the law school has been continuing since 2003. I am very pleased to see this final phase completed. The new facilities will provide a warm and comfortable place where students can gather for fellowship, study, plan activities and prepare for their future.”
The Commons is a two-tiered section that adds over 11,000 square feet to the law school. The Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) and the Office of Student Affairs will be housed in this new section along with the Student Bar Association, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Moot Court, a Prayer Room, a new student café, numerous six-person study rooms, a large conference room, student lockers, a new entrance into Ehrhorn Law Library from the Commons, and an new entrance into the law school.
With the opening of this new section, CCPD will benefit from the added space with two interview rooms and a resource room. CCPD will also utilize space within the Commons by offering workshops and other programs for students. Student organizations will be able to use specially designed carrels on the second floor, known as the Loft at the Commons.
Another feature offered in the new area is a prayer room. Open to students, faculty, and staff, the prayer room will be open for groups or individuals to pray, hold bible studies, or seek a moment of solitude.
Liberty University Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. has noted that well trained, Christian young men and women are needed now more than ever to “transform the legislatures, courts, commerce, and civil governments at all levels.”
