New office will bolster industry partnerships, job opportunities for graduates

October 31, 2018

Liberty recently opened the Office of Outreach and Business Engagement (OBE) to oversee its business and industry partnerships and continue to build on the university’s reputation of producing graduates for in-demand jobs.

As the front door to the university for companies of all sizes, the OBE will connect students with real-world experience and career opportunities, expand applied research and sponsored programs, advance student entrepreneurship, and create new business partnerships that align with the mission of the university.

“We recognize that talent is now the currency of the new economy, and Liberty University has a distinct competitive advantage in the marketplace,” said Liberty President Jerry Falwell. “Employers are attracted to the university’s Christian worldview and the quality of talent we produce.”

The OBE is focusing on three sectors for applied research that are growing locally and nationally: engineering, unmanned aerial systems, and cybersecurity.
The new office, headed by Vice President Jonathan Whitt, also manages Liberty’s Career Center and Office of Sponsored Programs. The OBE works with other university departments, including the Center for Research and Scholarship, the Office of Development, Alumni Relations, and various colleges and schools, to share resources and collaborate to produce more opportunities for students.

The OBE is located on the second floor of the Montview Student Union.
