Liberty University Heroes Fund

Stand With Our Nation’s Heroes

As citizens, we owe a great debt of gratitude to our veterans. And as Christ-followers, we owe an even greater debt to our Lord and Savior, Who commands us to take care of the “least of these” among us (Matthew 25:40), some of whom are the men and women who have fought to protect our freedom.

The Heroes Fund Scholarship

Offering financial aid for wounded active service members, veterans, and spouses of those killed in action in any of the Iraq and Afghanistan campaigns, the Heroes Scholarship Fund helps to remove financial roadblocks for these veterans of war.

It also enables them to pursue a college degree that may otherwise be impossible.

Will You Join Us in Honoring America’s Heroes?

You can make an impact today by providing financial assistance to our military heroes who want to earn a degree from a Christian university. They need people like you who are willing to help make their dreams a reality.

A Special Thank You from a Heroes Fund Scholarship Recipient

Dear Donors and Friends of Liberty,

I served with the U.S. Army as a Cavalry Scout during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. For my service, I received the Bronze Star Medal with “V” Device and the Army Commendation Medal. While in combat, I sustained significant wounds from incoming fire and developed post-traumatic stress disorder.

I returned to civilian life physically and mentally broken and began a long journey of suffering. I turned away from my faith in Christ and even became openly hostile toward Christianity.

By 2015, I’d reached an all-time low. Having exhausted all other options, I got down on my knees in a deer blind and asked Jesus to come into my life and take away my pain. On that October day, Christ began the transformative process of healing me.

In 2018, God called me to the ministry, which would require an advanced degree. It had been so long since I’d earned my bachelor’s degree, and I was terrified of failing. But the call to ministry was heavy, and I wanted to be obedient, so I promised God that I’d return to school if He provided a full scholarship. I began the enrollment process and applied for Liberty University’s Heroes Fund Scholarship.

My first confirmation of God’s plan was when I received my award letter even before my letter of acceptance to Liberty University!

Without this scholarship and the support of Liberty’s Office of Military Affairs, I could never have pursued God’s plan. Since day one, they never once wavered in their encouragement.

My wife and I recently moved from New Mexico to Lynchburg, Va., and I am finishing my master’s degree in Christian Leadership and Church Ministry. Most importantly, I am now walking in God’s calling as a chaplain with the Bedford Police Department.

I am honored to use my life experiences and education to serve police officers and their families within our community.

Unfortunately, the consequences of war include soldiers’ suffering. But with Christ, some of us are offered a new branch of service — in the army of the King!

We can use the experiences that have caused us so much pain to help others as ambassadors for Christ who go directly to the hurting and offer hope in Him.

Simply saying “thank you” does not fully express my gratitude to all those who give to this fund. With the Heroes Fund Scholarship and the degree it’s afforded me, I have been given the gift of a second chance and the awesome privilege of serving again.

With a grateful heart,
Randall L. Vallee
