Grounds – Bird Sanctuary

The bird sanctuary idea started in 2022 with a request from an LU student requesting bird feeders and houses to attract birds to our campus.  From there we created a plan for a bird sanctuary in front of the DeMoss building using open space that formerly had been a road that was removed.  We included the bird feeders, houses, bird baths, wildflower meadow, seating, and signage.  With approvals, we purchased materials and got started preparing to plant the seed mix for the meadow and installed all the accessories.  The planting was a success, and the area continues to grow.

The meadow dies back every winter and we leave the dead foliage for cover and seeds for the birds, then trim in the spring and then in a short period of time we have full growth and flowering again.  The Adirondack style and boulder seating is frequently in use.  We hope you and all the wildlife enjoy this special spot.
