Electromagnetics and Cyberphysical Systems Engineering

What’s Involved in this Research?

Pulsed Power is defined as the science and technology of accumulating energy over a relatively long period of time and releasing it very quickly, thus increasing the instantaneous power. My area of research includes, but is not limited to, the application of pulsed power in the defense domain including aerospace, naval, and space-based radar. My research at the Naval Surface Warfare Center extended my interest in military-based applications of pulsed power systems.

Additionally, I am exploring the application of pulsed power in the medical domain. Pulsed power has shown promising potential in cancer treatment.

Pulsed Power Systems

How Students Benefit

Having a deep understanding of Electromagnetics and or Cyberphysical Systems Engineering can benefit students greatly. Students can apply with confidence to work with major Defense companies like Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, to name a few. With the creation of the US Space Force, careers in electromagnetics have significantly increased. Working in the commercial space is also quite lucrative in providing solutions for medical applications.

Students can be involved in the master’s or Ph.D. level if they are interested in

  • EM phenomena
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility
  • Pulsed Power Systems
  • Radar
  • Antenna Design
  • RF/Microwave Circuits
  • Thin Films/Flexible Electronics
  • EM Materials Characterization
  • Computational Modeling and Simulation
