Graduate Gate 3: Student Teaching & Internships
Admission for Student Teaching/Internship/Capstone Course
Student teaching/internship experiences are arranged in positive classroom settings with well-qualified cooperating teachers within Christian, private, and public schools. Student teachers/interns are supervised by faculty members from Liberty University. For this reason, student teaching/internship may not be completed at another institution and transferred to Liberty University. Also, student teaching/internship credit will not be awarded for non-certified classroom employment.
Application Deadline, Requirements, & Submission
Application Deadline
For Licensure Candidates (Initial and Advanced Licensure), Gate 3 must be completed in the B-term of the semester prior to student teaching/internship. Note that Gate 3 is not offered during summer semesters, so Fall student teaching/internship candidates must complete Gate 3 during the preceding Spring B-term.
- If the candidate plans to complete Student Teaching/Internship in the Spring semester, he/she must successfully complete the Gate 3 Course during the preceding Fall B-term.
- If the candidate plans to complete Student Teaching/Internship in the Fall semester, he/she must successfully complete the Gate 3 Course during the preceding Spring B-term.
For Non-Licensure Students and Add-On Licensure Candidates, Gate 3 must be completed during the semester prior to the capstone semester.
The deadlines for student teaching/internship are very important in order to allow time for the Field Offices to coordinate details with possible school placements. In some cases, schools may have additional paperwork or processes that must be followed, which can extend the placement confirmation window. Thank you for understanding and for complying with these important deadlines.
Requirements and Submission Instructions
Gate 3 requirements vary per degree and licensure program. Review the Gate 3 checklist for your program within the Canvas Licensure Resource Community.
The Gate 3 Application is submitted through a 0-credit hour Canvas Course (noted on your Degree Completion Plan). Please note that all of the Gate 3 requirements must be submitted in this course by the weekly deadlines outlined in the Course Schedule/Syllabus.
All Gate 3 requirements, including passing test scores, must be prepared and completed prior to enrollment in the Gate 3 course to allow the candidate to meet weekly assignment deadlines. Testing should be completed early to allow time for retesting, if necessary. Note: Testing organizations typically require an approximately one month waiting period between testing attempts.
