Faculty FAQs
I suspect that a student has a disability but haven’t gotten any notices from ODAS. What do I do?
Do I have to accept all of these late assignments?
A student won’t succeed in my class if they miss it! What do I do with a modified attendance agreement?
While faculty’s priority is student success (and rightly so!), ODAS prioritizes equal access. A student with a chronic illness or mental health diagnosis is often eligible for modified attendance to help them manage their disability and their courses. This means that he or she needs to be able to have additional excused absences without being penalized. However, faculty may determine that absences during specific components of a course (i.e. activities or group presentations that cannot be replicated) are a fundamental alteration of the course, thereby making it an unreasonable accommodation in those instances.
Please contact ODAS at odas@liberty.edu or 434-592-4016 if other questions come up. We are here to support our students and our faculty, and very grateful for all that you do!
