Tim Scott to speak at Commencement 2024

Liberty University announced April 12 that U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., will be the keynote speaker at Commencement May 10.

Scott is a graduate of Charleston Southern University, where Liberty’s President Dondi Costin previously served as president. He first swore in to the U.S. Senate in 2013 and was reelected in January 2017, according to his official bio. Scott launched the Opportunity Agenda, a legislative package that aims to assist families living paycheck to paycheck and give children in poverty the ability to receive a quality education.

“I have known Senator Scott for many years as a close neighbor and personal friend,” Costin told Liberty News. “He is a proven leader with a remarkable career as a businessman and public servant.”

Liberty University Chancellor Jonathan Falwell told Liberty News that Scott is a prime example of living out a Christ-centered life.

“Senator Scott has a powerful testimony of Christ’s saving work in his life,” Falwell said. “Every day he lives out his faith consistently, and he will have a strong charge for our students and graduates this year.”

According to Liberty News, more than 60,000 graduates, family members and special guests are expected to attend Commencement 2024. Individual degree presentations will take place May 9-11 in various campus locations, while the main ceremony will take place May 10 at 7 p.m. at Williams Stadium.
