Empowering women in business: Student-led club encourages female students to cultivate business skills

Champions for Christ shine the light of Christ wherever they find themselves in life. Whether in  vocational ministry or corporate America, ministry is simply where one’s feet are. The Women in Business club exists to encourage women to walk confidently in their identities in the Lord and, as a result, shine the light of Christ in their future workplaces.

Mariah Schubert founded the Women in Business club in 2021 with a mission to inspire, empower and equip women to live out their faith in the workplace. The club provides workshops, meetings and events throughout each semester for women to grow in their walks with Christ and sharpen their business skills.

The club is currently being led by student president Zoe Egly, a senior marketing analytics, communication and strategic marketing management major. As a member, Egly experienced spiritual growth and community.

Now, she cherishes the opportunity to serve as president to the club that had such an impact on her life and gives her the opportunity to pair her love of womanhood and business.

“I love the combination of business and girlhood together, and I know I’m a better Christian now because of how I’ve walked alongside these girls the past few years I have been here,” Egly said. “There is so much strength in a faithful community of women who believe the same thing you do and are on mission with the Lord.”

Madison Boyce, a senior business administration major and the current vice president of the Women in Business club, considers being part of the club one of her greatest blessings and encourages other women to consider joining.

“The time I have spent in Women in Business has been such a blessing and has changed me forever. I have met some of my best friends while serving on the board,” Boyce said. “I have also made so many cool connections, met many women leaders in our community and learned plenty of valuable life lessons that will prepare me for life after college.”

The Women in Business club is hosting several events throughout the remainder of the semester.

Leap into Leadership will take place Feb. 29 at 4:30 p.m. in the School of Business. The event will begin with a time of worship followed by a panel of seven women including Mayor Stephanie Reed and Solmaz Chadwell, the wife of Liberty University football Head Coach Jamey Chadwell. Members of the panel will share how they integrate their faith into their jobs, families and friendships.

Following Leap into Leadership will be the Branding Workshop March 21 at 5 p.m. During the workshop, BrandWell Designs will discuss color choices, tone and how to convey a message when starting a company. They will also offer free headshots. While Egly is looking forward to all of the upcoming events, she is most excited for the Branding Workshop.

“I’m super excited for the Branding Workshop because I follow BrandWell Designs on Instagram, and they are so talented in their work and creative services,” Egly said. “I’m excited to hear how you can brand yourself as a Christian woman, but also the different aspects that you want people to think of when they think of you.”

The club’s next event, She’ll Rise, will take place April 4 at 5 p.m. Melanie Wilson, author, female empowerment speaker and founder of the She’ll Rise organization, will share her testimony of finding redemption in the Lord after almost committing suicide.

After She’ll Rise will be the Golden Honey Outing in April. Further details about the event will be announced at a later time. Members of the Women in Business club will have the opportunity to shop from the boutique after hours while hearing from the owner about the inspiration behind Golden Honey and how the boutique started.

The Women in Business club will also host a pickleball tournament April 20, and more details are to come for this event as well. The tournament will be coed, and participants will create a team to sign up for the tournament.

“A lot of times it can be hard to find friends the Lord has for you, so I would encourage girls looking for new friends or more friends to join, or just anyone who is going to have a job after college should join for the community and girlhood aspect,” Egly said. “If you want new friends or more friends or a sense of community, definitely come check it out.”
