In memory of Maj. Tobin Lewis: Remembering former student killed in aircraft crash

Maj. Tobin “Toby” Lewis, a former Liberty University soccer player and aviation graduate (2008), tragically lost his life in an aircraft crash during a training operation off the coast of Australia. Lewis is survived by his wife Meredith (2008) and three daughters. 

Lewis was the executive officer of the Marine Medium Tiltrotor that was carrying 23 passengers as part of a training exercise that involved 2,500 military personnel. Lewis and two other military personnel were killed in
the crash.

Lewis graduated from Liberty after earning his bachelor’s in military aviation. Throughout his military career, he earned both Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, as well as numerous other military achievements such as Navy Unit Commendations, National Defense Service Medals, and four Sea Service Deployment Ribbons. 

During his time at Liberty, Lewis played for the men’s soccer team from 2004-2007 and scored 19 goals for the Flames. In his last year on the team, Lewis became one of the Flames’ leading scorers. 

President Dondi Costin has asked the Liberty family to join him in prayer for Lewis’ family as they grieve his sudden loss.
