A Virginia man was arrested Sept. 24 after police allegedly found him inside an ongoing church service with a loaded handgun and several knives, according to the Prince William County Police Department. 

Several social media posts by the suspect were reported to Fairfax County police. Rui Jiang, 35, allegedly posted “vague threats of violence” and pictures of Park Valley Church in Haymarket, Virginia, the police reported. 

One post allegedly included a photo of Jiang holding a target with bullet holes and a caption saying, “Blood will be on your hands. The world will know my story. And what you did to me. And why I’m about to do what I do,” reports the
Washington Post.

In a video interview on NBC, Fairfax County police Chief Kevin Davis said Jiang was minutes away from carrying out the attack.

Longtime Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein passed away Sept. 28 in her home in Washington D.C., AP News reports. Feinstein was the oldest sitting U.S. senator and was described as an advocate for “liberal priorities” including gun control and environmental rights, but she also sought to find middle ground with Republicans, according to
AP News.

Feinstein was the first woman to become mayor in San Francisco, and later California’s first woman U.S. senator. Out of respect for the memory of Feinstein, the White House released a statement ordering the flag of the United States be flown at half-staff. 

“There are few women who can be called senator, chairman, mayor, wife, mom and grandmother,” a press release from Feinstein’s website states. “Senator Feinstein was a force of nature who made an incredible impact on our country and her home state.”

New York City has issued a state of emergency due to flash flooding sweeping the streets of the city, breaking records as 8 inches of rain fell throughout the city, according to the National Weather Service. The abundance of rain overpowered New York City’s sewer system Sept. 29, causing rainwater to flood the streets and damage homes, subways and schools, according to CNN News. 

Video footage from The Weather Channel shows rainwater covering New York City streets and cars. More than a dozen subway stations were closed due to the flooding, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. As of Sept. 30, most subway lines have reopened.
