LU Send Now launches first trip to aid flood victims

After devastating rain storms struck the east coast during the beginning of October, many parts of the state of South Carolina lay damaged due to heavy rain and flooding.

LU Send Now, Liberty University’s quick response team for disaster relief will mobilize its initial team into action to aid those affected by the South Carolina floods.

According to Anna Strickland, LU Send’s director, two waves of students who have received training will head to Columbia, South Carolina in the coming days.

The first team of about 20 students will depart from Liberty University at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13. The initial team will return to Liberty on Sunday, Oct. 18, while the second team of 20-25 students will leave for South Carolina on Monday, Oct. 19.

Strickland said LU Send Now has connected with humanitarian organizations so that LU Send Now’s groups can be the most effective.

“We have actually set up a couple of partnerships with organizations,” Strickland said. “In this case we are working with Samaritan’s Purse. … Whenever there has been an event like this we get in touch with our contact there and they let us know … the opportunities and … they get it all set up for us.”

Though Strickland said what the teams will be doing is still undetermined, she said updates will be posted on LU Send’s different social media sites including Facebook and Twitter.
