Freshman cross-country runner Edwin Kiprop performed extremely well in his debut race with the Flames. The Flames traveled to Cary, North Carolina, to compete in the Adidas XC Challenge hosted by NC State Sept. 20. In a race with 178 other competitors, Kiprop managed to charge his way to the front of the pack, earning a respectable seventh-place finish behind fellow Kenyan and Flames senior Nicholas Kiprotich, who finished sixth.

Kiprop completed the 6K challenge with a time of 17:59.7, finishing two seconds behind Kiprotich’s time of 17:57.7. There could be a healthy dose of competition between the two Kenyans this year, with Kiprotich projected as the team’s current star and Kiprop hot on his tail. Kiprop will be back in action Oct. 4, when the Flames compete in the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.

There’s a rising force in Liberty University Women’s Soccer this year, and it’s redshirt sophomore forward Halle Engle. Engle has been extremely dominant in the Lady Flames’ first 12 matches, helping them to a 9-1-2 start. Engle has scored eight goals in her last 12 games while also aiding in assists for her fellow teammates. She’s also currently tied for the most game-winning goals in the NCAA with five.

When the Lady Flames faced the Hokies Sept. 5, Engle scored two goals with the help of redshirt sophomore defenseman Sallie Garner and junior forward Ivy Garner. Since the start of the season, Engle has racked up 17 points with eight goals and one assist. She also aided in the 4-0 shutout against Jax State Sept. 19 with one goal.
