Gate Zero Video Game brings Christ to new audience

When Jesus instructed the disciples to fulfill the Great Commission upon the departure of his earthly ministry, only he could have foreseen what the future would hold for the retelling of his redemptive work.

“Gate Zero”, an online video game crafted by development company Bible X, exists to aid its mission in engaging a tech-savvy generation with the timeless Word of God. Founded in 2020, the faith-based game studio originated from a nonprofit media organization called BCC Media. According to Bible X’s website, its mission is built upon the belief that “there is a great need for innovation when it comes to conveying the Bible’s life-changing message to the younger generation.”

Similar to the depiction of the body of Christ in 1 Corinthians 12, each creative on the team has been set apart to use their gifts on this upcoming project. From animation to programming to marketing, every role within the Bible X team has come together to reach a select audience for the work that God continues to do in this day and age.

The concept of evangelizing through media is relevant in a highly-digitized society, one in which biblical messages are often grossly misrepresented. The mission behind “Gate Zero” is to provide the younger generation with an engaging experience regardless of their initial understanding of Scripture. “Gate Zero” offers foundational biblical knowledge to gamers through an immersive, virtual setting.

“If kids are playing video games, it’s cool that they have an option to play a biblical one,” senior Lizzie Edwards said. “They might choose it just for the sake that it’s fun while receiving biblical knowledge. That’s a cool way to reach them in this time.”

Having this video game offered in educational or church settings could also serve as a ministry opportunity. In an industry where the majority of video games have a violent nature attached to them, “Gate Zero” supplies a welcomed alternative for parents and educators who want to prioritize an edifying digital experience for their children.

The storyline of “Gate Zero” not only leads players on an adventurous mission back in time to ancient Israel, but it also acts as a Scripture-based, educational model. This game is set in the time of Jesus’ life and includes biblical imagery to accomplish each task. The objective also includes unlocking and solving various riddles along the way.

1 Peter 4:10 says, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

This call to action is a direct invitation for believers to get involved in reaching the world for Jesus. When believers embrace their God-given gifts and steward them well, the body of Christ benefits greatly.
