Liberty soccer players start new Christ-centric sports apparel brand: 6:11 Armor

At a university that trains Champions for Christ, two of those champions and student-athletes are using their know-how and connections to build something special. Sophomore Owen Moore and freshman Matt Torrell, two members of the Liberty University Flames men’s soccer team, have started creating their own sports apparel and are beginning to take steps to turn it into something truly special, which they dubbed 6:11 Armor.

Ephesians 6:11 says, “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil,” which Moore and Torrell want to try and help Christian athletes do in their sport.

“Proclaim your faith without uttering a word,” Moore said. “Be a billboard for Christ.”

The brand sells compression shirts and boot bags with faith-centric messages plastered on the front as well as athletic socks with a cross on the ankle, just to name a few of its products. It operates in a “drop” style, with each drop focusing on a theme or catchphrase. The most recent drop centered on the catchphrase “Jesus saves.”

6:11 Armor is Moore’s brainchild, and he later brought on Torrell and his business acumen to the operation. Torrell has had a knack for business since high school, where he turned his landscaping side job into his “own neighborhood business.” This led the way for him to start his own Christian sportswear company, Faithful Champions, in 2023 and later join Moore with 6:11 Armor.

“When I came here, (I) met Owen and I heard about all his connections, and he had a great idea for a new business,” Torrell said. “So, I was like, ‘Sweet, let me hear this new idea.’ And so, when he told me, I was like, ‘Listen, I’ll do all the business side of this. You have all the connections. You have the great idea. Let’s work together, and let’s create something special to use as a tool to expand God’s kingdom.’”

Moore’s connections that Torrell mentioned were vital to the early successes of 6:11 and are crucial if the brand wants to continue its rapid growth. The pair is collaborating with Liberty athletes to model and become brand ambassadors, including stars like Quinton Reese, Keaton Mohs, Joseph Venzant and Austin Henderson.

Liberty isn’t the only lane in which the two are trying to push their brand, nor is it the first.

“I grew up playing for the Philadelphia Union Academy, and I ended up playing pro for my last two years of high school in MLS Next Pro,” Moore said. “So, I grew up with now some of the best soccer players in the country, some of the best in the world, and they’ve always been my really close friends.”

Some of those close friends turned brand ambassadors include the Aaronson brothers, Paxten and Brenden, and the Sullivan brothers, Quinn and Cavan. The latter of that group has been labeled as the “wonderkid” and has signed a deal with the Premier League’s Manchester City, and he’s only 14 years old.

And as talented as Cavan Sullivan may become, and as touted of a prospect as he is, the duo of Torrell and Moore have even higher aspirations.

“One of our ambassadors, Shanyder Borgelin, he’s Inter Miami, playing alongside Lionel Messi, the best player in the world,” Torrell said.

The idea of Messi possibly seeing their brand on his teammate excites Torrell and serves as another way that the brand can grow.

The growth of the brand is only one of the goals of 6:11. The other goal, to help athletes show their faith, rests at the core of every move Moore and Torrell make.

“I know that if the athletes wear them and they want to proclaim their faith without uttering a word,” Moore said. “(If) Quinn can’t reach the hundreds of thousands of fans he’s playing in front of, at least if they can take off their game day kit after the game and then show their faith to everybody, they don’t need to talk to 40,000 people. They can just show what they’re about.”

The brand continues to grow as Moore and Torrell push it into new territories and new sports. Most recently they’ve locked their scopes on a familiar target: Liberty Club Sports. Both of the hockey and lacrosse programs at Liberty are large and well-respected programs among the overall realm of Club Sports, so to get the support and sponsorships of those programs has become one of the brand’s top priorities.

“That’d be huge,” Moore said about pairing with Club Sports. “So that’s definitely a goal. And that just starts and originates by building relationships, being a reliable source for them and to truly stand for what we’re behind. Like, not just guys that say they’re supporting Jesus and say they want to enhance the Lord’s kingdom, but guys that actually stand behind it (and) are actively trying to do that themselves in their personal lives.”
