Gaining job experience: Student Activities hosts job fair for 2024-2025 school year

Liberty University recently held the Student Activities Job Fair on April 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the second floor of DeMoss Hall.

There were different job opportunities being advertised for students across all majors. The goal for this event was to bring the Liberty community together as it introduced new students to student job positions that will soon be vacant because of graduating or leaving students.

Several people from the Student Activities team had a table set up and were there to answer any questions students had about the jobs.

Gabriella Trotte is an event supervisor for Student Activities and wants to be able to create a connection with students before they begin hiring. This also impacts students and faculty.

“It gives the students a face to our department,” Trotte said. “A lot of times the students get to know some staff at the events and it gives the students a chance to really know us as a department.”

Many of the jobs that are being offered for students are with the event staff, graphic design and videography.

“They’re all going to be part-time positions and student work positions,” Trotte said.

Some of the positions included are to help set up for student gatherings and events, like
Coffeehouse, and the opportunity to work with the marketing staff, photographers, videographers and graphic designers.

The event staff is looking to hire people to help set up and tear down for events and be able to work with specific equipment for the set-up process. Graphic design, photography and videography positions are also available for students who can create content and promote different events. There are also positions open for photographers and videographers.

These job positions include hourly pay and time off during breaks and holidays based on Liberty University’s schedule.

“(The job fair is) really great for any major,” Trotte said. “We’re not restrictive on that. We want to get to know every student on campus, whether you’re a music major or an education major, this job can be for you.”

Luke Tomlin and Delilah Froese work with the Student Activities team and each have had positive experiences working with them and gaining new expertise.

“I think Student Activities has given me the opportunity to grow in my craft a lot more,” Tomlin said. “I like having a job where I can do it and get paid to do it. It’s a lot of fun.”

Froese also has a similar perspective, being able to pursue what she loves doing.

“You can just get more experience with graphics because I’m a graphic designer and a photographer,” Froese said.

Job applications are located on the Student Activities Employment website.
