Students look to join LU groups

The Student Government Association hosted its semesterly All Clubs Fair Friday, Oct. 6. In picture-perfect weather, students gathered on the Academic Lawn to explore an array of 68 possible clubs they could join.

The club fair gave students the opportunity to get involved on campus.

“It’s a great chance to see all the options we have available and  what each of them offers in their own unique way,” Director of Communications for SGA Isaac Kantola said. “It’s great for all students, specifically new students who want to plug into a club but don’t know how.”

Club leaders set up tables on the lawn and showcased their clubs and all they had to offer students. From the French Club dedicated to celebrating French culture, to the Disney Club, to Students Against Trafficking, clubs presented a variety of interest for everyone.

Many tables offered treats, fliers and “swag” items for students to enjoy. To students who filled out the club survey, the Cru at Liberty club gave away travel coffee mugs while the Association of Latin American Students (ALAS) provided free
Jaritos sodas.

“There are a lot of Hispanic students who don’t know about (ALAS),” Director of Student Affairs Maria Rojas said. “We just want to let them know that we are here and (that) we can provide them a community that feels like a home away from home.”

Students could connect with  different service organizations in their areas of interest, such as Across Generations, which serves senior citizens and Autism Advocates, which provides a community on campus to students with autism.

“This is probably the event (students) want to come to if they want to get a good sampling of all (Liberty’s) clubs,” Kantola said. “So, I would say if students have questions, now is the best time to ask them and get plugged in.”

SGA will also be hosting a safety walk Oct. 26 in partnership with the Office for Security & Public Safety. The All Clubs Fair will return next semester. Students can keep up with other SGA events on its Instagram.
