Student Activities holds Classic Rock Concert for students

The vibration of guitars and echo of microphones combined to bring the sounds of rock music to life during the Classic Rock Concert. On Oct. 6 from 7-9 p.m., Student Activities held a Classic Rock Concert with student performers at the top of Runk & Pratt Garage. The performers were Will Burke, Valentines Dei and Seth Damon.

Being the second concert held at the top of the parking garage, Student Activities decided on a new theme: classic rock. The theme inspired students to wear their classic rock attire in order to fully immerse themselves into the event.

“When we were brainstorming, the rock genre was very appealing because rock is making its way back to pop culture,” Gabriella Trotte, an event supervisor at Student Activities, said.

To attend, there was a $2 entry fee, but it was waived for students who came wearing a classic rock shirt. On the left side of the garage, the stage and bands were set up. Toward the right side of the garage, Student Activities set up tents to sell drinks and give out stickers. In addition, Rookie’s came and sold ice cream sandwiches.

The first artist to play was Will Burke. He played songs like “Come Together” by The Beatles, “We Will Rock You” by Queen and “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi as well as an original song titled “Hoodie.”

“My favorite part was when the audience (was) singing along,” Sofia Ulsh, a student worker for Student Activities, said. “It brings the songs to life.”

In between each artist was an intermission where guests could purchase drinks and ice cream sandwiches while the next band set up.

The next to play was the new band, Valentines Dei. The group played “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac, “I’ve Got a Feeling” by The Beatles and “Chains and Things” by B.B. King, among other songs.

The name Valentines Dei is based on Imago Dei, so the name means valentines of God. The group is designed around hearts and kisses with an edgy, rock twist to it while still honoring God.

The final performer was Seth Damon. He performed songs like “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” by Journey, “Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne and “What I Like About You” by The Romantics. During the performance, the band’s sole electric guitar player amped up the crowd and performed an upbeat solo.

Anela Picotte, a senior majoring in entertainment journalism, enjoyed the guitar solo the most.

“Everyone had the energy tonight,” Picotte said. “It was a groundbreaking student event.”
