Large number of events set to return to liberty’s campus

Every semester, Liberty students participate in a multitude of Student Activities events. These events include video game and bingo nights, concerts and celebrations and a wide range of events to help students engage in campus culture. Last week, Student Activities officially announced its
fall calendar.

Packed with both new and returning events, the calendar exhibits a wide variety of activities that students can enjoy. New events include a Super Smash Bros. Tournament and Le-Monet, both of which are approaching quickly.

The Super Smash Bros. Tournament, happening Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Montview Game Room, will allow students to face off one-on-one in Super Smash Bros. battles to compete for prizes, while Le-Monet, based on painter Claude Monet, offers students a time to watercolor paint and enjoy fresh lemonade on the Academic Lawn  at 6 p.m. Oct. 20.

Also joining the array of new events is a Classic Rock Concert: a concert to be held on top of the Runk and Pratt Garage Oct. 6 allowing students to listen to music under one of Lynchburg’s fall sunsets.

Chris Knight, assistant director of Student Activities, made note of the newly announced calendar, encouraging students to make an appearance.

“Students should attend the events because extracurricular activities can really round out a college experience,” Knight said. “Students can make memories with friends at events and even form new lasting friendships. This is essential to fully enjoying your college experience.”

Returning to campus will be Fall Fest, Homecoming, Christmas in Lights and Coffeehouse – each large, staple events at Liberty.

Ringing in the cooler weather, Fall Fest will house many autumn activities Sept. 30, including a pumpkin patch and painting, carnival games, pie-eating contests and kettle corn. Happening at Hydaway Outdoor Recreation Center, the event will also allow students to rent boats to take in floating on the lake.

Homecoming Weekend will return Nov. 3 with a carnival, bonfire and tailgate, allowing alumni and students to come together and enjoy a time filled with live music, s’mores
and games.

The familiar tradition of lighting the Main Campus Christmas tree will occur once again this year Nov. 13. Christmas in Lights will continue to host carolers from the School of Music as well as a live band to play classic Christmas jingles. Students will enjoy hot chocolate, live music, a well-lit tree and a glowing nativity scene during
the event.

Finally, to end the semester, Christmas Coffeehouse will make a return to the Vines Center. An event that captures the eyes of over 5,000 students on average every year, the Dec. 2 show will be packed with festive songs
and performances.

Also included within the calendar are events such as Outdoor Open Mic, Monster Mash, Late Skate, Neon Mini Golf and, this year, a Tauren Wells concert.

“Be on the lookout for Trivia (Taylor’s Version), our first Super Smash Bros. Tournament and all of our Open Mics this semester,” Knight said.
