SGA holds upcoming prayer walk for university

Student body president Daniel Hostetter said this prayer walk is what makes Liberty stand out from the others schools.

On April 22, students will gather together and walk around campus while praying for the school, the faculty, the staff and
the campus.

“That is the vision that Jerry Falwell Sr. left us,” Hostetter said. “That we are a campus of prayer, that when parents send their kids here, they can be sure that if nothing else, their kids will be prayed for.”

The event begins 10 a.m. on the Montview steps, where the Worship Collective will lead the students in a time of worship.

From there, the walk begins. Students, leaders and faculty will begin to head toward the Prayer Chapel and start to pray
for Liberty.

“We’ll walk up towards the Prayer Chapel and pray for commuter students, spiritual development on campus and spiritual health,” Hostetter said. “Then, we’ll walk behind DeMoss and pray for academic programs and final exams. Then, we’ll walk towards Commons where we’ll pray for residential students.”

Anything and everything can be prayed for as students walk throughout campus, but Hostetter particularly wants to emphasize prayer for Liberty’s new leadership.

“I think a big thing that I want to pray for is our new president,” Hostetter said. “With Liberty just announcing Dondi Costin as president and Jonathan Falwell as chancellor, I think prayers for their leadership is a given.”

With over 15,000 students on campus who can unite in prayer, this event will bring students together like no other.

“I hope that students gain a valuable perspective to be able to pray together in a Christian community and grow in that community,” Hostetter said. “We believe that prayer changes things, and we believe in a God who listens to his people. So, we come before him and humbly ask that his presence fills this campus.”

No matter what role a student may play within the campus, the prayer walk is open to everyone.

“Even if you’re not involved in SGA, it’s a great opportunity to meet people and to pray for our campus,” Hostetter said.

Community group leaders on campus are encouraged to bring their community groups out for this event. Junior and CGL Olivia Anderson looks forward to the prayer walk.

“It is such an important movement to help not only reignite and revive our faith and hope, but also to be able to encourage one another of this simple opportunity that we constantly have to make a difference in our world,” Anderson said. “We can often be at such a loss of what to do to help those around us because we don’t have the proper resources, but we forget our most powerful weapon is prayer.”
