Runway bingo: A Student Activities event for the highly fashionable and the bingo lover

Bingo hit the runway Saturday night in the LaHaye Event Space when the Student Activities team hosted “Runway Bingo,” a fashion-themed bingo night. The event put a modern spin on the well-known game of bingo.

Students were encouraged to come to the event dressed in their most fashionable outfits, and the attendees did not disappoint. Several contestants wore brightly colored suits, formal dresses and even fedora hats as they took their places at the tables, but the dress code was not the only out of the ordinary thing about the event.

The Student Activities team replaced the classic bingo patterns of letters with numbers underneath and a runway theme, consisting of high heels, designer bags, wigs and even designer logos that the students had to dot on their bingo cards to win. A few of the patterns almost filled the card, which made for a highly competitive game. Near the end of each round, the excitement grew in the crowd as each player filled up more and more spaces. The last pattern, “Paparazzi,” filled up the entire card, meaning that the players had to dot off every space on their card before anyone else.

The event had two games of six rounds, each lasting about two hours. The winner of each of the 12 rounds won a gift card to either Amazon or Target. Students had to fill in their bingo cards with the shape according to the pattern they were given, call “Bingo!” and run to the front of the stage to have their card checked before they could claim their prize. In the case of a tie, both contestants had to choose a random number, and whoever guessed the closest to the next numbered ball drawn won the round.

The first-round winner, Peyton Smith, is a junior at Liberty University. Smith won an Amazon gift card, and this was her first time winning at any of the Student Activities bingo events she had
attended before.

“I try to make it to every bingo night,” Smith said. “It’s a fun thing to do with friends, and it gets you out of the dorm.”

Student Activities events are advertised on Instagram and on posters throughout campus.

“It’s a really great place to have fun without going off-campus, and it’s a great time to create memories,” Chloe Rinaldi, a Student Activities staff member, said.

If students have suggestions for themes, future events or other ideas, Student Activities would love to hear them. To share ideas with the team, message them on Instagram (@libertysa) or tell them in-person at one of the Student Activities coffee promos in the Montview Student Union, Green Hall or the Academic Lawn.
