In memory of George Rawlings

Longtime supporter and friend of Liberty University, George Rawlings, died March 16 at the age of 77. Rawlings was born Dec. 28, 1945, in Tyler, Texas.
Rawlings founded The Rawlings Foundation in 2000, an organization that serves to advance the news of the gospel around the world.
Rawlings also founded The Rawlings Group, which continues to be an industry leader in overpayment identification and recovery services for health insurers. The Rawlings Group currently employs 1,600 people, primarily in LaGrange, Kentucky.
Rawlings’ ties to Liberty University date back to the university’s earliest years. His father, Dr. John Rawlings, served as a pastor and key advisor to Liberty founder Dr. Jerry Falwell. The John W. Rawlings School of Divinity is named in his father’s honor.
“We were saddened to hear of George Rawlings’ passing, and we ask the Liberty family to keep the Rawlings family in their prayers,” Liberty Interim President Jerry Prevo said. “The Rawlings family has played such a vital role in the continued success of Liberty University, always willing to partner with us in our mission to train Champions for Christ.”
Rawlings is survived by his wife of 56 years, his three brothers and many nieces and nephews. Memorial gifts to honor his memory can be sent to: The Rawlings Foundation, PO Box 794, La Grange, KY 40031.
