Liberty students light the night with mini golf

Liberty students lit the night with indoor Neon Mini Golf as Student Activities hosted the second annual event in the LaHaye Event Space on Friday, Jan. 27

The mini golf course included 18 holes and prizes for the those who scored a hole-in-one on the final hole. Some of the prizes included Squishmallows, Nerf guns and pink rubber chickens.

Some students took it one step further by bringing their own golf gear along.

Student Activities hosted the first Neon Mini Golf tournament last semester with over 350 students.

Event staff had estimated a similar number this year. Student Activities plans to host Neon Mini Golf every semester.

Assistant Director of Operations for Student Activities, Jordan Kreitzinger, said Neon Mini Golf is a fun and easy way to involve everyone, whether they like golf or not.

“With Student Activities, we have two objectives when we look at our events — to serve and to entertain the student body,” Kreitzinger said. “This was definitely more on the side of entertaining, as far as providing an event that students find fun. … They can come and just play mini golf.”

According to Camilo Espinel, an event staff member, despite handling the large number of students waiting to get in, the event was a success.

“It’s really cool because students asked for it since we held it last semester and even though there were long waits, people were like, ‘We’ve got to do it again.’ I can tell a lot of the audience was expecting a lot of people,” Espinel said.

Attendee Hannah Deter said this was the perfect opportunity for her friends and her to hang out outside of band practice.

“It was fun, and it was a nice and relaxing event to get my mind off of all of the homework I have to do this weekend,” Deter said. “It was just all-around good to have fun with a lot of people. My favorite part of the course was where you had to get a hole-in-one to get a prize. That one was cool because you had to take it serious(ly).”

Liberty’s Student Activities has several different types of events for students lined up for the month of February.

A Y2K Trivia Night is the first one, which will encourage students to dress up in their best 2000s outfits and take on some trivia at the LaHaye Event Space Feb. 3.

Additionally, Student Activities will bring back its annual Laser Tag Tournament with a 16-team bracket and a $200 gift card for the winning team on Feb. 4.

“(These events) create a cool opportunity to create bonds and to create community (with) people you might not have met otherwise,” Kreitzinger said.
