Auditions End for Coffee House Oct. 23

One of Liberty University’s longest-standing traditions, Coffeehouse, is returning for the winter performance Coffeehouse: Christmas in the City. Taking place Dec. 3, students, staff and Lynchburg residents alike look forward to the biannual Coffeehouse performances.

Before the performances take place, though, students line up to audition for a chance to perform at Coffeehouse by attending Coffeehouse Act Tryouts.

The Coffeehouse Act Tryouts gives students the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of a panel of judges who help organize, plan and choose the acts that will perform at the event. Students like former Coffeehouse auditionee Harrison Reed recommend attending Coffeehouse Act Tryouts because of the opportunity it provides to further display an
individual’s talents.

“Coffeehouse is a great opportunity to do something fun with your friends and show the student body some of your gifts and talents, and that of course, starts with the tryout process,” Reed said.

Student Activities allows students to try out and perform with nearly any talent they have. If students have a talent and are comfortable performing that talent, they are encouraged to give trying out a shot.

“Two words: do it. We encourage everyone who has a knack for performance to audition for Coffeehouse,” Chris Knight, Student Activities coordinator of special events, said. “We are looking forward to seeing what the students are going to bring to the table
this year.”

For those looking to audition for Coffeehouse, Student Activities has some requirements and guidelines in place. Video submissions must be between 1:30-5:00 minutes in length and are required to be submitted to www.liberty.edu/coffeehouse by Oct. 23.

Music tryouts are required to be under 4:30 minutes in length, and everyone in the act must be present at the time of the tryout. Drum kits are provided during tryouts and during the show, but acts must bring all other music equipment and may not sing to a prerecorded track.

If there are three or less performers in the musical act, all performers must be Liberty students. If there are four or more performers in the musical act, 75% must be Liberty students.

Coffeehouse tryouts are taking place in person at the LaHaye Event Space Oct. 18, 20 and 24 from 4-10 p.m. and Oct. 22 from 1-8 p.m. Students interested in auditioning must reserve an audition time via the official Coffeehouse website.
