Liberty Mountain Gun Club Opens New Building

With construction finally completed for the new building at the Liberty Mountain Gun Club, members will get the chance to practice shooting skills and participate in gun safety classes. 

Construction at The Liberty Mountain Gun Club on Candlers Mountain Road was recently finished, and the club now boasts a new building for students and faculty.

The Liberty Mountain Gun Club hosts gun safety classes, teaches courses on how to conceal carry and contains practice ranges. After operating out of a trailer for the past three years, the new building’s completion is a welcomed change, according to Bill Crawford, the general manager. 

“Since the opening of the rifle and pistol range in August of 2018, we had been working out of a double-wide trailer,” Crawford said. “With only the one main space in the trailer, it had to serve as the classroom, lobby, point of sale and pretty much everything else. And with minimal storage and only one restroom, it was a bit cramped for a facility to run a rifle and pistol range.” 

A focus on the specific needs of the student and faculty population at Liberty as the club was being built.

“The new facility was constructed from the ground up to meet the needs of Liberty’s students, faculty and staff for a range of this size,” Crawford said.  

The newly completed building began construction in March 2021. The facility will allow the gun club to have more space  to operate, Crawford explained. 

The facility has two classrooms, a lobby to fill out paperwork and watch the safety video, restrooms, office space for staff, updated security and storage for equipment.

The new space is approximately two and a half times larger than the trailer. 

“Students are already benefiting from the new building as academic classes have begun, and with seven academic offerings at the gun range we were in need of proper classrooms,” Crawford said. “Now, we have two brand new classrooms with more space and updated technologies.”
