Men’s and women’s track teams take 17 wins in first home meet of 2020
The Liberty men’s and women’s track teams started the new decade with a bang as they hosted the Liberty Kickoff meet in the Liberty Indoor Track Center Jan. 24 and 25.
The Flames earned 17 first-place finishes and 14 event victories over the course of the meet Friday and Saturday, including Kyle Mitchell’s ASUN conference-record shot put throw for 60-1 3/4.
Distance runners Nick Doan and Noel Palmer kicked off the meet by sweeping the men’s and women’s 5-kilometer races Friday evening, followed by five more mid-distance and long-distance wins Saturday.
The Flames also saw three first-place finishes from Christian Lyon in the men’s 60-meter, 200-meter and 4×400-meter relay.
Fans can see the Flames at home again this weekend as they host the Liberty Flames Invite Saturday, Feb. 1. Events will begin around 9 a.m at the Indoor Track Center.
