School of Music Events

Charismatic and diverse performances are just some of the events the School of Music has to offer for the upcoming season.

Every semester the School of Music jam-packs their schedules for the students and Liberty community with faculty recitals, student ensembles and special artist showcases, and this semester is no different.

Kicking off the year, the School of Music is hosting its first of their Christian Artist Series on Sept. 11 with special guest Krisztina Der, renowned flutist.

“We want to have a variety of professionals come, who are also Christian, with diverse styles, genres and instruments,” said Greenawalt, chair of applied studies in the School of Music. “We find that it shows our students what it looks like to be a professional musician as well as a Christian.”

Two of the biggest events to mark on your calendar include the Paris Island Marine Jazz Band in concert on Sept. 27 and The Spirit of Broadway including the acclaimed singer Steve Amerson on Homecoming Night Oct. 19.

“It’s exciting that we can have people that are very successful in their field demonstrating the gifts that God has given them and to show the integrity of living a life devoted to God and His purpose within that field,” Greenawalt said.

Everything in the semester will lead up to The School of Music’s show-stopping event: Christmas on the Boulevard. Involving all of The School of Music students, this four-night event special featuring Handel’s Messiah on Dec. 3, Christmas Ornaments on Dec. 4, “Amahl and the Night Visitors” on Dec. 6 and President’s Encore Performance on Dec. 7.

“If you do one thing this semester that The School of Music puts on, Christmas on the Boulevard is the one to go to,” Dr. Vernon Whaley, the dean of the School of Music said.
