Jerry Falwell Library Updates

In an effort to serve students more efficiently, the Jerry Falwell Library has made significant upgrades to databases and in-library technology over the summer.

The JFL has also introduced research consultants during library hours and added new seating arrangements.

“We’re here, and we want to make a connection,” Cindy Schmidt, head of the Communication and Customer Service Department, said.

Students can now text a research or library-related question to 434-264-5369 and a research consultant will communicate helpful feedback within library hours. If the student wants a face-to-face interaction, he or she can schedule an appointment with a research librarian by emailing research@liberty.edu.

“Research librarians are there to help students one-on-one and in person, while research consultants primarily deal with the calls, emails and texts made to the library,” Brandon Reynolds, a library associate, said.

The seating and furniture upgrades have provided students with additional places to study. One example is the new rocking chairs added to give students another seating option.

One of the library’s quiet areas was also switched to a collaborative space. However, the number of quiet and deep quiet spaces has not changed.

The library will continue to offer tools and services to its students and staff, such as workshops and service fairs.

The fifth annual Library Services Fair: Expedition JFL will take place this year Friday, Sept. 14.

While students are in Convocation, faculty and staff can connect with colleagues and learn about resources and services that can help in their own teaching. However, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., students can visit the library and visit the various departments’ tables. There are activities and giveaways, and students get a chance to learn about all the things that the library has to offer and meet the staff.
