Pressing Ahead into 2021

Whatsoever

The backspace key on my laptop popped loose recently. Yep, completely detached from its proper place. Huh! It made me wonder how I would type going forward if I couldn’t go backward to catch my mistakes. I wondered about my life. I wondered about the year 2020. What a commentary?!

There is no “backspace” for daily blunders, no backing up to do it again better. There is no story in my life that I can erase and write it the way I wish I had said it or done it the first time. Maybe there is a lot of the year 2020 you’d like a backspace key to use.

Which of your expectations at the beginning of 2020 were intact at the close of the year? My guess is that they are the expectations that were intentional, deeply meaningful, and anchored in God’s eternal perspective. For all the other goals that didn’t endure 2020, let us “forget what is behind, and strain toward what is ahead” as God’s Word declares in Philippians 3:13.

My friends, glory to God for his mercy and favor! Don’t focus on the past. Clear your vision and look upon Jesus. Remember when you first met Him and fill your heart again with the wonder you felt.

“Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?” – Exodus 15:11

“Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples.” – Psalm 96:3

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” – Hebrews 4:16

“As for me, God forbid that I should boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.” – Galatians 6:14

“But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:31

So, what I am I doing now without a backspace key? Slowing down. Thinking ahead. Taking care of the activity instead of taking it for granted. 2020 may be the Year of the Pivot, but 2021 will be the year we press on for the prize in the highest calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14). May your days be full of His glory and favor.

Pressing On, 2021!
